Positively Hopatcong Spotlights Sussex County Law Firm’s Community Engagement

Community Engagement

We are very grateful that Positively Hopatcong, a Facebook Group that highlights the positive news and information of the great community of Hopatcong, New Jersey where our primary office is located, featured us in a recent spotlight. They highlighted our strong connection to Hopatcong and our continued efforts to be a positive influence on the community! Read the great piece below!

Today, we are pleased to spotlight a Hopatcong-based Law Firm that serves not only their clients, in a cost effective and comprehensive way, but they also serve the community of Hopatcong and non-profits.

If your child(ren) are involved in sports in town then, you’ve most likely seen the name “Gruber, Colabella, Thompson, Hiben & Montella” scrolled across the back of team uniforms. Currently, we can see the name on the back of a local Hopatcong Recreation Basketball team. Sponsoring community sports teams is just a small drop in the bucket, of how this local law firm gives back and serves our community.

The firm has been in Hopatcong for 40 years. In fact, two partners, Mark Gruber, Esq. and Chris Colabella, Esq. hail from Hopatcong.

Gruber, Colabella, Liuzza and Thompson maintains a strong connection to the community of Hopatcong and you can see that the firm’s community service is far reaching. For example, Attorney Racquel Hiben, Esq. has been the volunteer attorney for the Hopatcong Pound Project since 2011 and Attorney Gretchen Fry Rafuse, Esq. is a lecturer for Project Self-Sufficiency in the areas of family and criminal law. Throughout the course of 2017, members of the firm provided volunteer services to Project Self-Sufficiency, BARKS, Hero Boys, Operation Christmas Child, Anti-Bully Squad and more recently, as part of the firm’s Christmas party, built 10 bicycles to be donated to Ginnie’s house, a non-profit organization that advocates for abused children.

One of the larger and perhaps lesser known impacts that the firm has had on the Borough of Hopatcong is through their strong involvement in the Steven Milford Independent Living Experience (SMILE), by providing volunteer services to help the organization obtain Planning Board approval from the Borough of Hopatcong for the construction of an independent living facility for adults with developmental disabilities. The Firm even donated the land that SMILE’s first home is currently being constructed on off of Lakeside Boulevard. The firm’s partner Chris Colabella has served on the Board of Trustees. The facility, which Positively Hopatcong previously posted about, is expected to be completed this summer.

It really is no surprise that this dynamic Hopatcong-based firm believes in service, once you learn that Senior Partner Mark Gruber is not just a member of the Lake Hopatcong Rotary Club, but a past president. Rotarians live by a strong motto of Service Above Self and while serving.

One of the largest law firms in Sussex County, Gruber, Colabella, Liuzza and Thompson specializes in family law (Divorce and separation, child custody, spousal support, property disputes, etc.) but their nine attorneys practice in many area of the law, including Real Estate, Estate Planning and Administration, Municipal Court, Personal Injury, Bankruptcy and Civil Litigation. The diverse practice can assist individuals, businesses and families. Senior partner, Mark Gruber is a certified Matrimonial Law Attorney, while several of their other attorneys serve as mediators, arbitrators, public defenders and guardian ad litem. In addition, Partner Chris Colabella serves as the public defender for the Hopatcong and Stanhope Borough Municipal Courts.
